Oops I Almost Forgot!
What I am reading, listening to and watching this week!
Book I am reading this week: Broken Music by Sting. It's very good. It recalls his early days before he was famous. The thousands of gigs in shitholes, the failed tragic relationships, his overbearing parents. And of course, because it's written by Sting, you know there's lots of hundred dollar words.
Album I listened to most recently: I made a mix CD of the top songs of 1967. My favorite out of the 18 tracks I selected? Something Stupid by Nancy and Frank Sinatra.
Best movie I saw this week: Kansas City. It was on Starz. Jennifer Jason Leigh is a helluva actress and had a very complex role as Blondie, a wrong side of the tracks girl who kidnaps a local politician's wife to in order to get Johnny back from HIS kidnappers, members of the black underworld. But Miranda Richardson who plays the opium addicted Mrs. Stinson, who is unfortunately forced to tag along with Blondie until her husband can try to get Johnny out of trouble, manages to steal every scene she is in. She was my favorite character by far in this movie. And she was a fucking junkie to boot, and I still loved her! The music is great in this movie too. All jazz, all the time.
Hot issue of the week: Two girls were murdered in Zion, IL. A father killed his daughter and her friend tried to intervene, and he stabbed her too. Michael Jackson continues to dominate the newschannels, and even after all the denials and threats of lawsuits to US magazine, it appears that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie really are together, and she was the little trampy homewrecker that broke up his marriage to Jennifer Anniston. Every tabloid story is a cautionary tale isn't it?
