It's Been A Long Weekend

It's been a long weekend. My oldest son just got out of the hospital today. It's always something with this kid, I tell ya. THIS time he had cellulitis. Most of the time it's a respiratory issue. The reason that made me bring him to the ER on Thursday night is I discovered what looked like a major slice on the base of his penis. It totally freaked me out. I've never seen anything like this EVER. And I didn't know what to think much less do. The bacterial infection was so bad that it was causing his skin down there to erupt in some weird way. But he is better, I hope, and is on the right antibiotics.

I don't mean to sound like "oh poor pitiful me". I'm not the one suffering. I love this child more than anything else in this world. And for all the bitching I might do about my man, I gotta give him credit for this: He has been with me for every late night/all night ER visit, every surgery, and almost every doctor appointment. My son's own FATHER wasn't that dedicated or involved.

I am absolutely riveted by CNN and the coverage of Hurricane Katrina. I can't stop watching. It's like 9/11 again. I'm disgusted and enthralled with it. I've actually been in that area a few times and it's a beautiful place. The best way for me to describe the destruction is this way: They showed an off-shore oil rig that is now sitting on the beach. That's how WINDY it was.

Movies I saw this week: Alexander. I loved this! Yeah, of course Colin Farrell is hot. The scenes where he got, let's just say a little more affectionate than ususal, with his male friends, was stangely a turn on. I had someone else tell me this first, and I thought, Yeah, right. But she was correct. And the story! How it relates to the times we live in today. Alexander tried to invade Mesopotamia, was semi-successful, but realized he had ultimately made a big mistake and had to stop. Hmmm....

Album I Listened To This Week: I made a mix CD of my favorite beatles songs. Highlights: A Day In The Life. Drive My Car. All My Lovin. Twist And Shout. With A Little Help From My Friends. Norwegian Wood. I could go on and list all twenty tracks, but when you haven't heard these in awhile and you go back and revisit them, it's like falling in love all over again. I love music, all kinds in fact, but listening to this gave me such great pleasure!

Book I've Read: Still at the Bill Clinton book. Still diligently plugging along at it.

Top News Story: Of course, the hurricane. I feel lucky to live where I live. I feel fortunate that I have a roof over my head and a dry street beyond my front door.

You'll finally hook up with that cute young guy from the health club when a hot-oil hair treatment sends you to the burn ward where he's a doctor.

Straight From Defamer

I thought this was really funny:

· "Milos Forman will direct Natalie Portman and Javier Bardem in a biopic about Spanish painter Francisco de Goya. Will this project prove arty enough for Portman to finally go topless? Remember, that movie about Frida Kahlo finally got Salma Hayek to loosen up, even though we had to compromise on the eyebrows and mustache."[THR]

Courtney Love made the rather ludicrous statement "I've been clean and sober for a whole fucking year!" on the Pamela Anderson Comedy Central Roast the other night and a few days ago E! as well as my other favorite celebrity website perezhilton.com reported that she was back in COURT-ORDERED rehab. I had to make a mention of this because it sounds all too familiar. My ex-husband makes comparable proclamations every once in awhile as well. Which we all know is total bullshit because we don't hear from him for months at a time. When he is sober and not anhilating his brain cells with crack, he calls almost every day to speak to the kids.

I hated that show by the way. Now I love a good raunchy joke and it takes a lot to offend me, and I know it was a roast, but Jeff Foxworthy didn't stand there in a see thru top and tell the world that his throat was sore from sucking Tommy Lee's cock. They just kept going on and on about that! I think a subtle sly remark or two about their camera captured felatio would have been much more clever. Do I think Pam is pretty? Yes. Do I think she's talented? No, not really, but she's getting better, and she is a cultural icon in the way that Marilyn Monroe is. Marilyn Monroe got up in front of a crowd and sang "Happy Birthday Mr. President" in a beautiful skin tight gown. It was sexy and it spoke volumes about her feelings for JFK.

Oh well. Sarah Silverman was funny and to me was the one bright spot in an otherwise dreadful show. It shouldn't be a surprise. Sarah once asked this question: "Have you ever noticed that when you take a shower with your man, your tits get really really clean?" Mmm-hmm...

A New Feature For My Blog

I have decided to add a new feature. Every week I will post my horoscope, cut and pasted directly from theonion.com. I am a Capricorn. I think astrology is complete and utter bullshit and have found a new source that thinks so too.

Capricorn: (Dec. 22—Jan. 19)
You knew that house cats liked to play cruelly with their prey before eating it, but you had no idea that they grew to the size of the one outside your door right now.

This website said that this picture was "scary". But I don't know, I think it just looks like the forty year old she really is. Posted by Picasa

Vacation Have To Get Away

Ah, the summer is starting to wind down and because of my lofty position at a major retail chain it is officially back to school time. I found out the precise date all of the notebooks and pens go on clearance, and I will be taking full advantage of the savings because only a doofus pays full price. But ssh I can't tell anybody because that's confidential store information! My ex in-laws just came by and picked up the kids for the weekend and I couldn't be happier. They were just gone all last week at church camp and it was so quiet. I began to miss them the day before they came home so it was good timing. And the week before that we went on VACATION!

I told the kids that when I was a kid my folks took us on some pretty good ones, but I don't really have a whole lot of money. So we drove to Branson where my boyfriend's parents live. It was fabluous. There's a theatre on every corner. The Oak Ridge Boys. Andy Williams. Yakov Smirnov. We didn't get to see any of those however, but I know if we did I would have loved it all. The cheesier the better. We went to the water park and a pizza place that puts any Chuckie Cheese to shame. My boyfriend's folks are such nice kind people. It was a great weekend.

Books I've Read This Week: I am still reading the Bill Clinton book. Still. I'm only half thru it. What a nightmare it must have been for his editor! It's really not too bad a book, but it is extremely plodding. I am trying to find a copy of the new Vanity Fair somewhere in this town, but am having no luck. Is an interview with Jennifer Aniston where she bad mouths her soon to be ex Brad Pitt such a mega-seller that even the yahoos in this town buy every copy? The cover story in Vanity Fair is the LEAST interesting feature of the magazine and it's usually the last thing I read if I do at all.

Movies I've Seen: The Wedding Crashers. Very funny. My favorite scene was when Vince Vaughn was tied up in bed and the Christopher Walken character comes in to talk to him. I also saw Diary of a Mad Black Woman. Also very funny and I really loved it's message. One of forgiveness and letting go. I sure do know a thing about that don't I?

Music I've Listened To: I can't remember an album I've listened to lately... However we did do it to the "Party Favorites" channel on our digital music service on TV the other night. Sam Cooke and I were twistin the night away indeed.

Top News Story: Oh I don't know... It's the weekend, I haven't watched the news much in the last 24 hours. Peter Jennings passed away from lung cancer this week. Yeah, it deserves a mention because I think he was one of the best. But you've got all these other TV reporters on talking about this all week long and they keep saying how marvelous he was. I want to see just one person get on there and talk about how they thought he was a talentless hack. Wouldn't that be a hoot?

And the diet? Well, I'm still holding steady at 155. My goal was 150. I haven't been trying too hard to diet in the last month. But at least I haven't been going overboard and gaining those ten pounds right back. Swimsuit season is almost over. So I have to come up with a new reason to lose the last five. Ooh, I know! I have all these jeans in the closet I can't wear, and if I got to 150 or even a few less, I could get back into a size ten! Except most of them are size eights... Sigh. Oh well, I'll think of something and of course continue to keep track of my progress here.

I found a picture of the cat lady. I had to put it here in all it's freakishly horrible glory. Posted by Picasa
